On May 21st, Elica arrived at the West Steps of the State Capitol to educate the children about our clinics and services. At our booth we gave away dental kits, hand sanitizers, cups, and magnets. There were dozens of kids who came by our booth and received an item.
This event was hosted by Senator Pan and sponsored by the Sacramento Summer Meals Collaborative in efforts to provide health free meals for children ages 1-18 while school is out for the summer. The goal is to deliver one million meals to kids this summer!
There were kids from local elementary schools, arriving in buses and leaving with goodies from the organizations present. We believe it’s important for children to start good habits at a young age so that they can maintain those healthy habits into their adulthood.
A good practice for kids to get into is to floss every day and brush their teeth twice a day. Did you know that you should wait an hour after eating to brush your teeth? Your teeth’s enamel can be worn down by the acids in the foods you eat so it’s best to wait at least an hour for your teeth to recover.
There was live music playing as kids went from booth to booth, learning what foods are healthy and how to stay active during the summer.
The picnic was a great event for the community, especially the kids. We were more than happy to be at an event that supports the Sacramento community and the children. Thank you to Senator Pan for hosting this event, we look forward to next year’s picnic!
We strive to provide high quality, affordable health care for underserved populations, who are confronted with barriers to accessing care.
