Pediatric Video Visits: What Parents Need to Know

Convenient Care for Your Child, Wherever You Are

At Elica Health Centers, we know how busy family life can be! Between work, school, and everyday responsibilities, finding time for a doctor’s appointment isn’t always easy.

That’s why we offer pediatric video visits – a convenient way to connect with your child’s healthcare provider from the comfort of your home or another private location.

Whether you have questions about your child’s health, need a follow-up appointment, or want to discuss test results, a video visit may be a great option for your family.

Does My Child Need to Be Present?

Yes, your child should be present and available during their video visit – but that doesn’t mean they need to sit in front of the camera the entire time!

We understand that younger children may have trouble sitting still, and that’s perfectly okay.

Depending on the reason for the visit, your healthcare provider may ask to see your child, speak with them, or observe their behavior or movements.

You can still do most of the talking, especially if your child is young.

The important thing is that your child is nearby and available whenever the provider needs to see or speak with them.

What If My Child Is at School or Daycare?

If your child is at school or daycare and cannot participate in the appointment, please contact us to discuss other scheduling options.

Please note that your child must be available to participate in their scheduled video visit. If your child is not present, the appointment may need to be rescheduled.

Your child’s participation is generally necessary for a pediatric video visit, even when you’re the one discussing their symptoms or concerns.

How Can I Prepare for the Visit?

A few simple steps can help make your appointment go smoothly:

  • Find a quiet, private space with good lighting.
  • Make sure your phone, tablet, or computer has a working camera and internet connection.
  • Keep your child nearby and ready to participate.
  • Write down any questions or concerns you’d like to discuss.
  • Have your child’s medications available if needed.
  • For younger children, a favorite toy or book can help keep them comfortable.

Can Every Pediatric Appointment Be Done by Video?

Not always! Video visits work well for many follow-up appointments, medication discussions, test results, and certain health concerns.

However, some conditions require an in-person examination or testing.

Your healthcare provider will help determine whether a video visit is appropriate or if your child needs to come into the clinic.

We’re Here to Help!

Our goal is to make healthcare easier for your family while ensuring your child receives safe, high-quality care.

Please note that your child must be available to participate in their scheduled video visit. If your child is not present, the appointment may need to be rescheduled.

Remember: Your child doesn’t have to sit in front of the camera the entire time, but they should be present and available when your healthcare provider needs to see or speak with them.
